Pomolita Middle School 500 Wing and Gymnasium Modernization Ukiah, California
Pomolita campus was constructed in the late 1940s as a high school and is currently used as a middle school when Ukiah built a new high school In the late 1970s. The 500 Wing building at Pomolita Middle School originally housed the high school vocational program.
In 2003, Ukiah Unified School District enlisted Alameida Architecture to study the replacement of the former vocational shop facilities with modular construction or renovate the 50 year old structure into classroom space and indoor physical educational facilities. As the by-product of this study, Alameida Architecture was asked to provide a design to modernize about 19,000 square feet of facilities in dire need of improvement.
This modernization utilized the existing 500 Wing building shell and replaced windows and doors with new energy efficient material. Interior spaces are entirely of new construction.
